When considering landscaping plants, be careful not to limit yourself. Determine your needs and wants. Are you looking for something low that covers the ground or something with height that provides screening all year round? Do you want spring blooms, fall color, or a mixture of both? Fragrance or fruit? Is the area you want to landscape sunny or shady? Wet or dry? Do you want to screen that window or do you want an unrestricted view? Nature has provided a myriad of possibilities, and Willow Green Gardens keeps as many options as possible for our design pallet and your shopping pleasure.
Trees can be either evergreen or deciduous. Deciduous trees are very common in Missouri and grow well in our USDA Zone 6 climate. They are prized for many reasons as they can provide shade, spring blooms and fall color. They offer many shapes and sizes, so planting the right tree in the right location is always key. Deciduous trees lose their leaves by winter and re-grow them every spring, while evergreens keep their leaves all year round. Both types of trees are great for landscaping, but evergreens are ideal if you’re looking for color and privacy throughout the year.
Evergreens retain their leaves all year long. Conifers like pine, spruce, and cedar are common, but don’t forget about broadleaf evergreen trees like southern magnolias. The right evergreen can provide lots of enjoyment twelve months out of the year.
